Transport Investments
We are facilitating transformational change and supporting capital investment in the region’s transport network through the management of major transport programmes including the Transforming Cities Fund and Active Travel Fund.
Schemes are being delivered across the North East working collaboratively with the seven North East local authorities and Nexus.
Metro Flow
The Metro Flow project will ensure the line is capable of carrying Metro services, boosting the capacity for an extra 24,000 passenger journeys every day.
Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS)
Almost £20 million will be invested through the Transforming Cities Fund to modernise and connect traffic signals across the North East to improve millions of passengers journeys each year.
Sunderland Central Train Station
Transformational plans to revamp Sunderland’s central train station are underway, with a £26m boost that will ‘give Sunderland the rail station it deserves’.
Durham Bus Station
The development of Durham Bus Station is part of a multi-million redevelopment of the major transport hub that serves the city and county.
